A Few "Notes" about "The Music of the Movement"

Music has always been a part of Jamaica Bobsled, the country of Jamaica and its people. No wonder then that the Movement of inspiration that Jamaica Bobsled exudes, dances to the beat of the rhythm of its culture.

From its roots theme song "Hobbin an a Bobbin" with Bob Andy and Dean Fraser and the Ragamuffins, to Rockabessa's "Sledder" song and then Lock Stock and Barrells "Rise Above It" in the Cool Runnings movie, the music of the movement is now taken off with a "Rocket Blasta" again Lock Stock and Barrell featuring Trust, Belinda Brady and Nico See.

The most recent version of the use of music to inspire, takes the form of the latest theme song for Jamaica Bobsled

The song Rocket Blasta was inspired by Jamaican Bobsledder Shanwayne Stevens, who said that “We’re not just a movie – We’re more than a movie”. This was not meant to be a slogan, but an expression of the evolution of the team from Cool Runnings to a Movement. Woven into the fabric of this growing culture is less of a rebranding but more like “expanding the branding” The Bobsled team has now become a movement that seeks to improve upon its athletic prowess, expand its inspirational contribution to the world and dig its heels into doing good things for society in general (Philanthropic endeavours through their foundation).

“The world has been good to us, it’s time we do good to it” PC Harris, a co-founder of the team since its inception and also a songwriter and producer commented recently. The history of Jamaica, its people, its culture, its athletes and the history of Jamaica Bobsled is  joined at the hip with its music. The very first team had the world’s first bobsled theme song “Hobbin an a Bobbin” back in 1988 and then came “Rise Above It” featured on the iconic movie Cool Runnings.

Now in 2022, the music is emerging as a force to blast off as fast as the teams sliding and it is with that in mind that they have announced the launch of  “The Music of the Movement”  a series of albums will be created every year that speaks to all of the aspects of Jamaica and the team and rising above life’s challenges and each album will feature various artistes famous or emerging ones as well.

This page celebrates the starting point of the project. Each album (and we’re adding more regularly) has 5 songs each that you can purchase for $4.99 – The proceeds are split between the Federation and the artistes themselves and 10% towards offsetting expenses.

We welcome any new contributing artistes who would like to be a part of this. You may contact us at music@jamaicabobsled.org
